Cape Town Diving – enjoy this epic diving tour in 2016: This dive package is designed to showcase the best diving Cape Town has to offer. The tour is available from March to May, and is designed to coincide with the Pelagic Shark and Cage Diving seasons. The tour also includes seal and cow shark dives as well as an extended dive charter exploring False Bay.
Your Cape Town dive package: The exact dive sites an itinerary will depend on conditions and shark activity at the time. Pelagic shark trips require good offshore conditions. We have scheduled this charter for Day 2 but it may be swapped for day 4, 5, 6 or 7 ensuring the optimum weather window. Cow shark dives, seal dives and exploration charters may also be changed around to suit.
Day 1 : Arrival and transfer – Cape Town. We welcome you to Cape Town, the mother city, as you are met at international arrivals and transferred to Simonstown. Settle into your room, relax and enjoy a wonderful evening overlooking the harbour and the bay. Dive times and equipment requirements will be confirmed for the day ahead.
Day 2 : Blue & mako pelagic shark charter. Today we head out to sea in search of blue and mako sharks! This is a baited dive in the open ocean without cages. There is an 85% success rate of diving with blue sharks on these trips while Mako sharks are sighted on average, every 3rd trip. Dolphins, whales, game fish and pelagic birds are often found on these charters, not forgetting the spectacular scenery of the Cape Peninsular and Cape Point from the unique ocean perspective.
The trip out into into the blue waters off Cape Point may take as much as 2 hours as the activity may be as far as 40NM from the harbour. This is the wildest diving Cape Town has to offer !
Day 3 : Cage diving charter. Cape Town offers the serious shark diver a premium Cage Diving option. Today is your chance to dive with great white sharks around the seal island in False Bay.
The cage is secured to the boat and extends to a maximum of 2m below the surface with clear headroom above the water at all times. Scuba regulators provide air to the divers via surface supply. The average dive time per guest is 20 minutes with a maximum of 12 divers on-board and 4 divers in the cage at any one time. Guests will also have excellent opportunities to view the sharks from the upper deck while they wait to enter the cage or should they chose not to dive.
Day 4 : Dive with cow sharks and seals. False Bay is one of the few places in the world that you can regularly dive with Sevengill (cow) sharks. The dive will be spent searching the kelp forests and fringes for these beautiful and little understood sharks.
Cow sharks N.cepedianus can be found for most of the year in the shallow waters of False Bay near Millers Point. Both a formidable predator and scavenger these primitive looking sharks are in rest-mode during the day and seem undisturbed by the presence of divers, offering fantastic encounters and photo opportunities. Although numbers are constantly in flux it is quite common to encounter 10 to 20 different cow sharks on a dive.
Day 5 : Cape Town tour. No trip to Cape Town would be complete without enjoying what the city itself has to offer. Day five is left free to explore Cape Town and surrounds. As South Africa’s premier tourist destination, tour options may include, Cape Point, Wine Tasting, Penguins, Kirstenbosch Gardens, City Tour, Table Mountain, The V&A waterfront and Two Oceans Aquarium.
Land based tour options will be discussed with clients on site and will be adapted to their interests and the weather.
Day 6 : False Bay adventure dive charter. This is an extended 2 x dive charter in False Bay with additional time allowed to explore the bay in search of whales and dolphins and to enjoy the spectacular scenery of False Bay. Dive sites will be chosen on the day according to qualifications and conditions on the day. The boat will be available for 5 hours exploring within the confines of False Bay.
Day 7 : Cage diving charter. Once again we head out to seal island in False Bay in search of great white sharks, with the hope of finding different sharks and witnessing different shark behavior. If you are serious about diving with white sharks we always suggest at least 2 charters in your dive package. From our experience every day is different. Shark numbers and shark activity varies from day to day (even hour to hour). Schedule 2 days as you may loose a day to weather and this will ensure the best possible chance of a great, great white shark encounter !
Day 8 : Tour end.
